In Location, you see the parents and all the ancestors of an object up to the root of the project. If the object has multiple parents, all these parents are shown. It is possible to access Location directly from the right-click menu of an object, through the Object Location button in the Object Panel of the Home Category or through a shortcut Ctrl+Shift+L. The focus of Location changes automatically when objects are selected in the Internal Block Diagram or treeview.

There are four different display options:

  • Show All: all the parents of the focus object are shown.
  • Show Flows: only the parents with which the focus object is in a flow relation are shown.
  • Show Incoming Flows: only the parents for which the focus object is a consumed flow are shown.
  • Show Outgoing Flows: only the parents for which the focus object is a produced flow are shown.
  • Show Objects: only the parents with which the focus object is in an element relation (visually a container) are shown.

For more information on different types of relations, see Object Hierarchy.

In the simplest case, only one parent is visible in the location tree. When dealing with flows, there are usually two parents: the flow producer and consumer. If the object has several parents (i.e. there are several references to the same object), the number of nodes in the location tree increases correspondingly.

The Location tab is not influenced by the projection: it shows all the parents of the selected object whether they are visible in the projection or not.

Navigate from Location panel

Location panel allows to see where objects displayed in Location hierarchy are used (in what Projections - see "Go to Projection" list) and navigate there using "<" and ">" button to the right from "Go to Projection" list.

List of Projections changes when user selects different objects in Location hierarchy.

To navigate to a Projection - select an object in the hierarchy, select Projection from drop-down list and click on ">". Selected object will be located in the Projection and Internal Block Diagram. Clicking on ">" again will navigate to next appearance of the selected object in the Projection. Clicking on "<" will navigate to previous appearance of the selected object in the Projection.

Drag and drop objects from Location panel

It is possible to use Location panel for adding existing objects into Internal Block Diagram or Treeviews.

To do so, select an object in the Location hierarchy and start dragging it with left mouse button. Drop it in the Internal Block Diagram or a Treeview where it is possible - object will be added there.
