The active variant is selected using a drop-down list of variants in the Navigation Panel of the Home Category. The active variant is effective only for a given user and does not modify the project for the other users. When you change the variant, the project data is automatically filtered and the objects whose options do not fit are no longer displayed (there is one exception - see Using the shaded Context mode).
In the drop-down list, the variants are displayed along with the folders containing them. The folders are bracketed and you cannot select one; the project can only be filtered by variants, not by folders.
Default Variant
It is possible to define a variant that is displayed by default when the project is opened: this is done in the Variants Manager by right-clicking on a variant and choosing Set default.
Impact on the option window
In the option window, a red diamond marks all option that are checked in the active Variant to help you determine what option makes the object in or out of the Variant.
